How to get paint off leather shoes. Paint is very difficult to remove, especially where it gets all over your clothes. If you spill paint onto a shoe, pay close attention to the type of fabric and find ways of removing it quickly while preserving the appearance of the leather as much as possible.
Use water and mild detergent to spray over painted areas before using a damp microfiber cloth. Some use brushes to carefully scrub away loose paint or an eraser in case it got on non-painted leather portions like seams and joins.
Wash the shoes thoroughly in water after cleaning them with soap. This should be done not only when you’re dealing with fresh stains but also when cleaning anything else that might have paint on it.
How to get paint off leather shoes
You can remove a stain of paint from your shoes by applying moisturizer to the affected area using a cotton swab or your clean finger.
Wipe off the moisturizer using a cloth so as not to leave it on longer than necessary. Take another clean cloth and soak it in warm water then cover the stained area with it for up to ten minutes. Here is some other methods are mentioned below.
Using soap and water along with a soft brush
Dip a soft cloth into warm water and add the soap. Work it in by dabbing the cloth onto the paint of your shoe so that it creates lather.
Then apply the warm soapy water to the paint and let it soak for a few moments. Gently wipe with your soft-bristled brush across the paint until you feel like there’s no more left on your shoe.
Keep dabbing and swiping until there is no more visible paint on your shoe then allow it to dry before putting some leather conditioner on for polish.
Apply Fingernail Polish
Dip a cotton swab into your nail polish remover and carefully dab it onto the paint. Keep dabbing until the paint begins to come off the shoe onto the cloth.
You may need to apply several pieces of cloth or cotton swabs if you have a lot of paint on the shoe in order to remove all of it successfully.
Do not rub. If your shoe was dyed, be sure that you wipe off any remaining nail polish remover before you go on to the next step of polishing the shoe back up so as not to compromise its dye job.
By Using Rubbing Alcohol
As with nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol is less harsh on the skin. However, it can dry out the leather, so it’s important to apply a leather conditioner to your shoes after you’ve cleaned off the paint.
Dilute 50% rubbing alcohol with 50% water solution or spray on the areas where paint has been sprayed. Let stand for 10-20 minutes.
Rub in an up and down motion with a paper towel. Treating shoes with a leather cream such as Saphir Medaille d’Or Pate de Luxe is highly recommended as it will keep them shiny and in new condition.
Using baby or cooking oil
Apply a little oil to a cotton swab or cloth. Dab the oil lightly onto the paint. Let the oil penetrate, hydrate, and loosen the paint from the leather for a few minutes before painting.
Once this first coat of paint has dried, use your nail or dull butter knife to remove as much paint as possible. Be careful not to press too hard, as that could damage your leather.
Repeat this step a few times to completely remove the paint. After soaking up all of these colors and oils, wash the area gently with soap and water, letting it dry completely before applying shoe polish.
